What changed in MiniMax H3
Versus prior Hailuo and MiniMax video models, H3 is the first built as a single omni transformer merging text, image, video and audio, the first at native 2K, and the first with open-sourced base weights.
MiniMax H3, sold to consumers as Hailuo 3.0, is a 33-billion-parameter model that understands and generates text, image, video and audio together, producing native 2K video with stereo audio in one pass. Its base weights are open, with a catch about where. Here is what it means for a marketing team.
MiniMax H3 (Hailuo 3.0) is a 33B-parameter omni transformer from MiniMax, unveiled 17 July 2026 and public from 31 July 2026, that generates up to 15-second native 2K video with 32kHz stereo audio in a single pass from text, image or up to 12 combined references. Its base weights were open-sourced in early August 2026 under a MiniMax Community License that is free for organisations under $20M revenue but unavailable in the US, UK, EU and South Korea, where the hosted API (about $0.13 per second at 2K) is the only route.
For marketing teams with engineers, the open weights promise self-hosting and fine-tuning on brand assets. For most Western teams, the regional exclusion means it is a paid API model like the rest.

The Hailuo app and platform, the MiniMax Open Platform API, and third parties including OpenRouter, Morphic and EvoLink. Self-hosting only where the license permits.
The open-weight base model is the real differentiator for teams with technical resources: self-hosting or fine-tuning on brand assets removes per-second API costs, and single-pass audio plus video with up to 12 references suits fast, localised ad variants where you swap the voice, face or product reference and regenerate.
The catch is geography. The license explicitly excludes the US, UK, EU and South Korea, so most Western marketing teams will use the paid hosted API, where native 2K with heavy reference inputs is slower and pricier per generation than simpler competitors. It is also newer and less proven in production ad pipelines than Kling or Veo.
